What Is A Guardian Home?
As a Guardian home, we have a reduced adoption fee for the puppy and the dog stays with you as your family member for the life of the dog. We retain Ownership and Breeding Rights for a certain number of litters starting at sexual maturity and ending once the female has whelped a set number of litters. Each Guardian dog contract is unique, but it usually consists of whelping between 3-4 litters depending on the female and how she reacts during and after whelping. Our Guardians are responsible for the dog’s regular health maintenance, annual exams, vaccines, flea control, heartworm medication, food, grooming and anything else associated with raising a dog.
We pay for genetic health testing and breeding related expenses. We decide when and to whom she will be bred to. She is returned to us around 7-10 days before her due date and will remain with us for 6-7 weeks. After her puppies have been whelped and weaned the female will return home to the Guardian. We typically use Guardian homes for our females. The expectation for our males is that we have access to them when stud dates are needed. We are able to provide 10 days notice of stud dates. We only need our studs for a couple hours 2-3 times during a females breeding week. We co-own our males with our Guardian families until the age 5, then we neuter them at our expense and the Guardian family becomes his forever home. When the dog is older and completes his/her breeding obligations, we sign ownership over to you. The dog will then return to you and enjoy the wonderful life you have provided them since they were a puppy.
